Durham, N.C. — The contract of Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks RHP Tyler Herron has been purchased by the New York Mets organization, the American Association announced on Tuesday. Herron has been simply dominant for the RedHawks so far this season, leading the league with an 0.80 ERA to go along with five victories, tied for third in the league, and 47 strikeouts, tied for fourth. The West Palm Beach, Fla., native has pitched two complete-game shutouts this season, a one-hitter against Sioux City on June 1 and a four-hitter against Wichita on June 18. In 56 innings of work, Herron has walked just 12 hitters and limited opponents to a .161 batting average. The 29-year-old is in his third season with Fargo-Moorhead, having also pitched with the club during the 2015 and 2012 campaigns. He has also spent time in the St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Washington organizations, reaching as high as Triple-A. Herron was originally a first-round choice by the Cardinals in the 2005 draft. Herron is the second member of the RedHawks pitching staff to have his contract purchased by a major-league organization this month, with RHP Travis Ballew joining the Miami Marlins’ organization earlier in June.
