More speculation comes out of Worcester as more news arrived about the Tornadoes not meeting its obligations to pay bills to team vendors. Can-Am League commissioner, Miles Wolff, was quoted in this article and is hopeful that the team can meet its obligations with the current vendor so that the team is viable for the rest of the year and into next year.
The article also cites speculation that the players, should its equipment be taken by the creditor, would be made into a league-operated travel team for the rest of the season called the “Greys”. That team was used in the Can-Am League in previous seasons.
Hopefully this does not happen. Should the Tornadoes become the the Greys travel team, this would be the third independent baseball team this season to become a travel team during the season (the NAL’s Sonoma County Grapes and Hilo/Hawaii Stars were designated as such before the season started):
- Roswell Invaders (Pecos League) still played as the Invaders, but as a travel team after its home games were pulled
- London Rippers (Frontier League) became the Road Warriors playing its “home” games in Lake Erie + most of the games on the road
