New Semi-Travel Team In The North American League

According to Bob Wirz’s column (http://www.wirzandassociates.com) and Ballpark Digest (http://ballparkdigest.com/201104073718/independent-baseball/news/texas-teams-nal-basically-playing-separate-schedules), the North American League will undergo some new changes to its teams and upcoming schedule.

Evidently, in order to reduce travel costs, the Texas teams in the NAL (which remained from last year’s United League) are going to play against each other predominantly.  Also, a “semi” travel team is slated to play called the McAllen Thunder.  It appears that the team will play some “home” games while sharing the same stadium in Edinburg which will house the Roadrunners. This team is confirmed on the SanAngeloColts.com website’s schedule as well.  The rest of the time the Thunder will be a travel team.

The team is named the Thunder and, presumably, they will reuse the logos and jerseys from last year’s Coastal Bend Thunder which played in Robstown, TX.  No confirmation of this has yet been made.

Also, it appears that the only remaining Chicago-area team (Lake County Fielders) will join the Western Division of the NAL.  This means that Lake County will be playing against Maui, Chico, Yuma, Calgary, and Edmonton.  This also means that the Henderson Roadrunners, last year’s St. George Roadrunners in the Golden League, may not field a team.  No word yet on whether any signed players for the Henderson team will transfer to the McAllen (Edinburg) team or not.

The North American League website, as of Friday the 8th, did not reflect these changes.
