Pecos League News Updates

There are two pieces of business and team news from the Pecos League this week which affect the schedule for the 2013 season.  First, it appears that the Roswell Invaders – who were hoping to get into the NMMI facility – are not going to be able to do so.  The field’s owners wanted the Invaders to help split the cost for adding a turf infield, which the Invaders and Pecos League are not willing to do.  Likely, the Invaders will go back to their stadium where they played last year; and this is assuming they can keep their hotel costs down and stadium lease rates at levels near the rates paid in other cities.

It also looks like the Pecos League will be adding a team in Taos, New Mexico.  This has been a multi-year project, and the team would be called the Taos Blizzard.  It would be added, with an imbalanced schedule, to reduce travel and hotel expenses for the other teams in the revised Pecos League North Division.  The need for an 8th team, likely in the South Division, is still prevalent.  Most likely it would be in West Texas to help balance out the need to reduce travel costs for the 2012 league champion Alpine Cowboys.
