Last week the newly-announced Freedom Pro Baseball League issued a news article on their website which states that there are 4 planned teams to begin play next month:

  • Arizona Centennials
  • Copper State Prospectors
  • Montezuma Federals
  • Sonoran Explorers

There is still debate among independent baseball industry insiders as to the league’s viability as a recognized pro baseball league.  The major sports news outlets which cover independent baseball have not yet added the league, and the league has not yet appeared on Pointstreak ( where the other independent leagues aggregate their stats. has not yet had its call returned, nor has it been directly contacted by league in any manner for exposure or to be added to the list of teams.  With several independent baseball leagues generating a lot of noise on the internet in recent years, yet ultimately folding/changing names/delaying its launch/never playing a game, this site is hesitant to give the league its endorsement until a few major barriers to entry have been met.

This is not to say that this website has any ill will toward the league.  Should it meet the minimum barriers to entry then we gladly will give the league adequate exposure on this site and the search engine results which this site produces.  We at are always for the expansion of independent baseball as it means more opportunities for players, managers, coaches, umpires, interns, and front office staff to launch their pro baseball careers.  It is just with so many proposed leagues in recent years not having any true foundation, we want you to have quality information about the independent baseball industry.  Should the Freedom Baseball League be legitimate and appear to have a solid foundation then we look forward to helping you learn more about it, its ownership, the players, and interesting stories coming out of the Arizona area this season.
