A recent article came out of Chico regarding the Outlaws independent baseball team in the Golden League. It covers interesting issues on the business of baseball, especially when it comes to stadium matters:
What is good to see is that the article, and those quoted, give credit to Mike Marshall who took over the GM position of the Outlaws for the 2010 season and the progress which has been made. Chico improved on the field and then improved on other areas. The question is if the “sins of the past” before Mike joined the Outlaws are too much since the Outlaws were in the final year of their stadium agreement.
Quotes from the Chico State University President, Mike Marshall, and Kevin Outcalt of the Golden League are included in the article.
Many of the 2010 GBL teams have mentioned recent financial and operations challenges. Hopefully the GBL can solve the problems and put together at least a solid 6-team league next year or hopefully the 8 teams mentioned in the article.
Feel free to leave your thoughts on specific actions which could be taken to raise the revenues and/or attendance for GBL teams so that more opportunities for players to be in pro baseball can exist for 2011.
