AWBL Announces Team In Mesa Arizona For 2013 Season

The proposed American West Baseball League (AWBL) announced this week that former Major Leaguer, Albie Lopez, will be part of the ownership group bringing a team to Mesa, Arizona for the league’s first season in 2013.  This is the league’s 5th announced team:

The last pro baseball team in Mesa was a team known as the Mesa Miners.  They were in the Golden Baseball League’s first season in 2005.  A revised Mesa Miners team played in the Arizona Summer League in recent seasons, but this was in instructional/developmental league format and was not officially professional baseball.  Here are links to more articles of interest on the Miners:
