Atlantic League Has A Name The Team Contest

Kudos to the Atlantic League for setting up one of the first intelligent “name the team” contests which uses technology.  The league plans on adding a team to Loudon County in Virginia for 2011.

The website to register your vote is:  http://www.vipbaseball.net/

More about the new team can be found here:

Hopefully the VIP baseball site will take the next step and use its mailing list intelligently in order to meet basic goals.  These could include:

  • Sending out vouchers for “slow night” games (e.g. Monday or Tuesday) to those who took the time to join its mailing list.  Filling stadium capacity will help sponsors stay happy, increase possible sponsors for 2012, and increase marginal profits via concessions and merchandise
  • Sending out recap videos of the team’s series, especially when on the road
  • Many other ideas to monetize its list as well as endear the team to those who voted on a name

Hopefully the Loudon County ownership will take baseball forward into the new decade with intelligent marketing that enhances the fan experience and reaffirms that independent baseball is a terrific entertainment option versus the alternatives available to local fans.
