Abilene Blue Sox to Join Pecos League In 2012

The Abilene Blue Sox are a semi-pro team located in Abilene Texas.  They are now set to join the Pecos League for the 2012 season, with a few games to be played in Abilene during the 2011 Pecos League season:

The Abilene market has an interesting history in recent years with independent baseball.  The team had the Prairie Dogs with the old Texas-Louisiana League in the 1990’s.  The city then had approached the former Continental Baseball League about having a series there, which ended up being played in Stillwater Texas.  The Coastal Bend Thunder of the United League played some games in Abilene last year (http://www.reporternews.com/news/2010/jun/28/thunder-fall/); and the Blue Sox owner, Richard Kemp, was originally part of the Southwestern States League which was scheduled to begin play this season but will not operate.
