One does not see a 3B in the indys batting .150 "because he needs to get his at-bats" or a pitcher sporting a 9.00 ERA "because he needs to log some innings" -- you don't produce, you're cut. This also leads to REAL pennant races, where the teams care about making the playoffs because the players get paid for another two weeks and the owners get as many as four more home dates.
