Atlantic League Discusses Launching International Teams And ALPB 2 In Upcoming Years

The Atlantic League is looking at creating the ALPB2, a short-season independent league which will fill in a gap for professional players to either:

  • get them ready for the more veteran-level Atlantic League
  • have them get signed to Major League organizations

These teams would play in existing markets which lost their recent independent teams such as Atlantic City and others. Much came out this past week on the topic, with several quotes from Frank Boulton.

There also is discussion of international play by the main Atlantic League in the Caribbean such as the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.  There even was discussion of one day, although nothing has been confirmed, having some form of exhibition series in Cuba.  Many former Atlantic League players who have connections in the Caribbean were cited as being part of the reason for the discussion.
